Local communities are mobilized in programming and implementation
processes to promote social cohesion and peace through capacity
development on conflict transformation, negotiation and
positive role of youth. They are also supported for participatory
community development and management of public assets to
become self governing entities. Community based Peace and
Livelihood Facilitators (PALs) are trained to play a key
role. Comprehensive assessment is carried out in the project
areas and communities to identify community priorities and
design appropriate livelihood and recovery responses for
them.
Build New Community Infrastructures
and Rehabilitate Old Ones
The project works in partnership with Local Development
Fund of District Development Committee in the construction
of community infrastructures and rehabilitate those damaged
and degraded ones to benefit the entire community and create
short-term employment. Youth are mobilized under Youth for
Social Cohesion and Peace component to orient them to become
stewards of community peace building efforts. Conduction
of after- school tutorial classes help provide employment
to educated but unemployed youth while village greening
programme and other peace oriented activities create a forum
for youths to implement innovative peace building activities
at the local level.
Improve Assets for the Poorest
and Most Vulnerable
Special initiatives are undertaken to assist individuals
and households by prioritizing women, disenfranchised youth
from conflict affected families, Dalits and poorest communities
through income generating activities, micro-enterprises
and
technology transfer. Agriculture being the mainstay of Nepal’s
rural economy, the focus is to support agro-economy to directly
support the targeted groups and bring about tangible change
in their livelihood capacities.
Promote Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality
Women Rights Forum are formed in all VDCs of Mahottari,
Sarlahi and Rautahat to empower women rights activists to
mobilize women against gender based violence. Series of
trainings and campaigns are organized to promote women's
empowerment and gender equality.
Capacitate Local Bodies to Respond
to Livelihood & Peace
The project creates synergy between VDCs, municipality,
district and national level key institutions to respond
to community livelihood recovery needs and build resilience.
District Development Committee is assisted to monitor livelihood
programme
and regularly feed the findings of monitoring visits into
planning and programming. Stakeholders are actively involved
in the monitoring and evaluation of the project activities.
Lessons learnt are documented and shared with the stakeholders
through discussion, dialogue and publicity materials.
